Mukteshwar, a small town and tourist destination is located in the district of Nainital, Uttarakhand in India. It is located at the top of Kumaon Hills, 51 Km from Nainital. The distance between Mukteshwar and Haldwani is 72 Km and from Delhi, it is 343 Km. It got its name from an 350-year-old temple of Shiva which is known as the Mukteshwar Dham and is situated atop the highest point in the town. Close to it lays the overhanging cliffs, which according to the regional language is called Chauli-ki-Jali, often used for rock climbing, provides an excellent view of the valleys lying below. The whole temple complex is famous as a Tapovan and is an ideal place for meditation.
